Report on IGS DC-CRRI Site Visit

A site visit was organised by IGS Delhi Chapter in association with CRRI and AECS Engineering and Geotechnical Services on 23 Feb 2015 to demonstrate use of soil nailing technology for stability of cut slopes for construction of underpass below an existing flyover near mother diary Laxmi Nagar. All the participants gathered at CRRI office at around 09.00 AM from where they were transported to the actual site in Laxmi Nagar by a bus. Mr. Thomas Joseph, GM, AECS welcomed the participants at the site and gave an overall introduction about the project. He also gave a detailed description of the soil nailing activity carried out in sands under active moving loading conditions above flyover. The cut slopes were first stitched using soil nailing at a close spacing of 0.5 to 1.5 m along with use of wire mesh and shotcrete. Discussions on usage of pushing box technology for construction of underpass under the existing flyover were also elaborated during the visit. IGS DC Chairman, Dr. Nanda thanked AECS and CRRI for organizing an interesting site activity which was appreciated by all the participants. This visit was attended by about 35 professional engineers, academicians and researchers from various private and government organizations, such as CRRI, EIL, IIT, AIMIL, IITD, CSMRS and many more.
