A Report on “IGS (DC) –Aimil workshop
Geotechnical Investigations using Geophysical Methods with GPR Technology
In continuation of the series of workshops & demonstrations initiated by Delhi Chapter of IGS, a workshop cum Demo session was organized jointly by IGS (DC) - Aimil Ltd. on 6th January 2013 at Hotel Bulbul, New Delhi. The theme of the workshop was “Geotechnical investigations use Geophysical Methods, with GPR Technology”. It focused on latest in GPR Technology.

The Event commenced at around 10:30am after the formal Registration and Tea. Aarti Bhargava, member IGS (DC) welcomed the delegates to the said workshop.  It was well attended by 40 plus delegates from various institutes/organizations like Avantha Power & Infrastructure Ltd, CRRI, CSMRS, Central ground water Authority, CENGRS, EIL, Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt. Ltd., GMR Group Etc. The workshop started with a presentation by Dr. V M Sharma who talked about Aimil’s strength in Instrumentation & Consultancy in the Geophysical domain.

This was followed by a detailed presentation by Mr. L D Mohapatra of Aimil - on Geophysical Methods and on the Ground Penetrating Radar – Latest in GPR Technology. He covered the technical details like what is GPR, its basic principles, working of GPR, kind of data it produces, their results & interpretations, various applications for which the GPR technologies can be used.

The presentation was followed by a live field demonstration of GPR from the world leaders GSSI, USA by the team of Aimil Experts. It gave an opportunity to the delegates to have hands on experience on the instrument.

There was active participation by all the delegates during the presentation and demo sessions making the event very interesting, interactive and fruitful. It gave an opportunity to all the members to enhance their knowledge in this field. A Technical Kit covering all the details on the subject was also circulated during the event.

After the event, vote of thanks was given by Dr. Atul Nanda, IGS Chairman (Delhi Chapter). He thanked all the members for their active participation and for Aimil for making necessary arrangements. The event came to an end at around 3:00pm with a hot lunch in the offering. We will continue with such workshops in future as well. The next workshop will be help at IIT Delhi on 31st January 2014.
